The entrance to the interior of Cistern, which was unobstructed in 2002 by the Parish Council of Evoramonte, has a small door with straight shoulders and lintels, all in granite, through which the inhabitants could fetch the water. [...]
The monument is possibly a post-earthquake work of 1531, probably built to prevent a demographic decline in this area, as it is known that until that date there was no source of drinking water inside the walls, thus serving as an incentive to the permanence and growth of the population in the parish.

The Evoramonte Public Cistern is located near the wall, in the West zone of the fortress, in the Street that follows later to the Misericordia. Were it not the two cylindrical nozzles protruding from the rest of the terrain, we would hardly have gotten it if we came from Porta do Freixo, since the cistern is underground. [...]
