É uma praça simbólica de Valparaíso por sua localização privilegiada no centro da cidade.
Aqui a maioria dos eventos públicos e também o desfile das Forças Armadas são realizados. Foi inaugurada em 10 de maio de 1922. Em 1936, foi instalada a estátua da Capital Loba, o que fortaleceu ainda mais os laços de afeto com a colônia italiana residente.
Fica entre a Avenida Pedro Montt e a Rua Independencia, no auge da Rua Freire.
Valparaíso está localizado a 112 km. de Santiago do Chile.
