In the mid-nineteenth century, the migratory movement brought this country the first Orthodox: Greeks and Slavs. A few years after the Greeks and the Slavs began the influx of Syrian Lebanese. At the request of this community Emperor Alexander III signed a decree ordering the creation in Buenos Aires of the Orthodox Church attributed to the Russian imperial legation in South America.
On the left side is a mural called Baptism of Russia and on the right side, another of the Virgin with the Child and the Holy Father John. In front, a bas-relief bronze recreates the facade of the church.

The church was designed in St Petersburg and works directed by the artist Christophersen, inaugurated in 1904. The style is Byzantine and in its facade the domes with stars symbolizing the celestial sphere stand out.
