The Basilica of Santa Croce (in Italian Basilica di Santa Croce) is the main Franciscan church in Florence, Italy, and one of the main basilicas of the Catholic Church in the world. It is located in Piazza di Santa Croce, the lesta of the basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore. It is the place where some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Machiavelli and Rossini, are buried and is thus dubbed the Pantheon of Italian Glories.
Legend has it that the church was founded by St. Francis of Assisi himself.
