Es befindet sich in einer beherrschenden Stellung auf einem steilen Hügel und integriert die Verteidigung der Burgen von Monforte, Campo Maior und Ouguela im Mittelalter. Derzeit ist es Mitglied des Plains Touristic-Promotional Area.
Das Schloss war 1939 Gegenstand allgemeiner Restaurierungsarbeiten der öffentlichen Hand. Es wurde per Dekret vom 18. Juli 1957 als Eigentum von öffentlichem Interesse eingestuft.
Das Schloss befindet sich in Privatbesitz und kann täglich besichtigt werden. Es ist der Schlüssel der Pfarrei von Veiros.
