It was built with quincha and adobe on a pre-Hispanic sanctuary in 1535. Francisco Pizarro appointed the land to Captain Gerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez, who had actively participated in the early conquest.
Since that date it has been inhabited continuously by the descendants of this ancient Lima family and it is the oldest mansion in the city. At present it is occupied by the sixth generation.
It presents a facade embellished by a republican balcony; an imposing staircase at the entrance of the house as a symbol of nobility; a courtyard lined with 19th century Italian marble and a bronze fountain in another of the courtyards.
Address: Jr. de la Unión 224. Next to the Government Palace and half a block from the Plaza Mayor.
Visits: Monday to Sunday from 09:30 to 16:00.
The courtyard with 125-year-old ficus and a family chapel dating from 1814 and whose walls were covered with silver plates (disappeared during a looting in 1826) still remain.
It also has large and luxurious rooms that display magnificent paintings, furniture and tiles. It is currently the venue for various cultural events.
