In Chongoyape there are also vestiges left by its ancient inhabitants. In this place, two lots of tombs with gold objects were found. The first, found in 1928-1929, by the 15-year-old Floro Morrofú, at the bottom of a ditch in the El Almendral farm, owned by the Gayoso brothers; and the second, a decade later, apparently together with the remains of three individuals and with Cupisnique-style pottery, by workers on a road.

The material found is very showy and comprises crowns, pectorals, rings, pins and even a bimetallic plate, which combines gold and silver, as well as spherical beads made of two welded caps, epilators and gold wires. These pieces are associated with the Cupisnique style, even though they have traits attributable to a clear relationship with Chavín.

Determining the date of creation of the Chongoyape district is quite problematic, as there are contradictory opinions. It appears that Chongoyape concentrates the political levity and legal ambiguities that characterize the provisions on political creations.

Some point out that it was by the law of November 29, 1856, while Justino Tarazona and Ricardo Miranda maintain that it was by the decree of July 30, 1840, which says:

As can be seen, the aforementioned decree at no time says ´´believe it, but rather implies that the Chongoyape district already exists, limiting the device to granting ´´the ownership of the land to the new populations´´, etc.

A more probable date is November 19, 1939, when President Agustín Gamarra, at the request of the residents of Sullana and other towns, promulgated the law that in its article 1 says:

´´The town of Zuyana and all the populations that are in its case, enjoy the political rights that the laws indicate, and the ownership of the lands they comprise´´.

In those circumstances, the laws were more imprecise and general, so there are opinions that argue that this is the law with which Chongoyape was born as a district. But the struggle for ownership or possession of the lands and for their district rights continued.

On September 21, 1840, the sub-prefect of Chiclayo, José Leonardo Ortiz, in a public ceremony held in Chongoyape, gave the "be fulfilled" to the decree of July 30 of the same year, signing an act. For some, this political support of J. L. Ortiz for the Chongoyapanos is the birth certificate of the Chongoyape district; But this political support from José Leonardo Ortiz did not give security to the Chongoyapanos, much less did it end the excessive ambition of the landowner Buenaño.

CHONGOYAPE is one of those places where you breathe calm and where it is a pleasure to return. It is a district located northeast of the province of Chiclayo, constituting one of the districts furthest from the coast and close to the Andean massif.

It limits the north with the province of Ferreñafe; to the south, with the districts of Oyotún and Zaña; to the east, with the Cajamarca region; to the west, with the Mesones Muro district.

The relief of the Chongoyape district is less flat than that of Chiclayo, due to the Andean buttresses that rise up in its territory and between which the Chancay River runs. The hills Mulato and Raca Rumi, north of the city of Chongoyape, are famous. The territorial extension of the district is 619.80 km2.

The word Chongoyape comes from Quechua and means a crying heart or sad heart.

Its population is mainly engaged in agriculture, in which rice and sugar cane, as well as corn, stand out.

It has a warm, dry climate with concentrated rains between December and March, presenting a temperature that ranges between 30ºC and 14ºC, although it can present a maximum of 35ºC in the summer.
