The church is of very old foundation, knowing that it existed already in century X, since a document shows that the church was donated to the Monastery of the Lorvão in 957. This primitive church was reconstructed in century XII in Romanesque style, but at the moment nothing remains of this old building, rebuilt in the eighteenth century due to the state of ruin in which it was.
The works of the present church began on July 16, 1756, following a very simple Baroque style. Outside, the portal and the two bell towers stand out.
The interior is constituted by a nave and a main chapel, where one can observe a retable of gold and marble carved, typical of century XVIII coimbrão and similar to the main retable of the Monastery of Santa Cruz. The main altarpiece frames a painting, signed by the Italian painter Pascoal Parente, who represents the Martyrdom of St. Bartholomew.
