As mentioned above, the Boquiní indigenous people inhabited the space in the eastern part of Ocaña. Among the annexed towns, one can mention the Peritama, the Idijama, the Cucurima, the Teorama, the Bujeriama and the Burgama. On the border of the jungle were the Locutama and those who inhabited Mesarrica.
The first news of the Boquiní party is found in 1602 when, according to the title given by the Governor Captain General of Santa Marta, Don Juan Giral Vellón, the first encomendero, Luis García Romany, is mentioned.
During the 18th century, the party was exploited by landowners living in Ocaña.
This area had important estates including Aratoque, Matanza and San José.
From the latter, Antonio José Portillo was awarded a royal land that reached as far as the Tiurama area. The search was due to an exchange for the one that Portillo had in the vicinity of Ocaña, which was delivered to the indigenous people concentrated in Pueblo Nueve de San Diego.
In the same part of Teorama, the Royal official of the Port of Ocaña, Mr. Miguel Ibáñez, the priest Alejo María Buzeta, Mr. Bartolomé Fernández Montejo, Mr. Miguel Jácome and Mr. Martín Vila, among others, established themselves on the banks of the Catatumbo River. .
