This is the dam of the Douro closest to the mouth of where it is 22 km. It is therefore the first dam that we find when we go up the river by boat and the last when we go down.
The lock wins a 13.9m height difference of water, being the lowest difference between the dams of the Douro.
In addition to water storage and electricity production, the dam also serves as pedestrian and road crossings.
It has a height of 65 meters above the foundation and a crowning length of 470 meters. The installed capacity for electricity production is 117 MW.
