The Teide National Park occupies the highest zone of the island of Tenerife, where the volcano EL TEIDE is located. It was declared on January 22, 1954 as Teide National Park, being the largest and oldest of the national parks of the Canary Islands and one of the oldest in Spain.
In 2007 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in the same year it was also included in the list of the Twelve Treasures of Spain. It is also one of the most visited national parks in Europe and the world. In 2016, it was visited by 4,079,823 visitors and tourists.
Traveling by car to the national park is an interesting experience: from the sunny south coast you can head towards a place called Vilaflor, with a landscape of high mountains. As it rises in altitude, the terrain changes drastically and, suddenly, an incredible lunar scene emerges.
The park itself is 2000 meters above sea level and winter can be covered with snow. During this time, temperatures are usually negative, while in the summer months they can exceed 40 ° C.
