Inaugurated in 1912, its striking wooden structure makes it visible from a distance. The Elevator monjas has an architecture and formal expression in its upper part, which shows it as suspended over the hill in the manner of the typical houses of Valparaíso.
Its lower access is only a door and a corridor difficult to distinguish on Avenida Baquedano, in a house at the foot of the hill that becomes part of the whole, which then leads to a beautiful aerial tour of Cerro Monjas, looking at Valparaíso as a city rather than as a port, since the city is dominated by its location further from the sea.
Adjacent to this elevator is located a staircase that accompanies its entire route. It should be noted that from its lowest part it is not possible to appreciate the true magnitude of the Monjas Elevator, and the urban presence that it acquires on the heights of the Monjas hill.
In its upper part, its arrival is through a bridge that connects the station with Bianchi street on Cerro Monjas. It is covered with oxidized calamine, and due to its large size and presence, it constitutes an important element within the urban context that welcomes it.

There are several alternatives to get to Valparaíso:
By bus
The trip takes 1 hour 45 minutes from Santiago. Existing departures with a frequency of 15 minutes, the bus companies offer a good level of service and comfort.
By car
For those who wish to arrive by car from Santiago, they should take Route 68, the estimated travel time being 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The bridge, which connects the upper elevator station with the street, becomes an excellent viewpoint that looks out over the city, and then passes through the threshold, and thus reaches a typical hillside neighborhood of Valparaíso.
The Monjas elevator has a great urban presence, constituting itself as an elevator that is shown in its surroundings through its vertical route and its upper station that is framed and clearly distinguished within the hills that surround it.
