The Emerald Grotto was discovered in 1932 by a local fisherman. The emerald grotto takes its name precisely because of the color of the water, which with reflected light creates a chromatic effect ranging from cobalt blue to turquoise or emerald green.
Since 1956, there is an underwater nativity scene, about four meters deep, made of ceramic statues. During the Christmas season, divers are responsible for placing the baby Jesus in the crib.
