The Estoril Golf course has been in existence since 1929 in its first 9-hole version and was commissioned by Fausto Figueiredo, holder of the game concession at the Casino do Estoril. Its first architect was Jean Gassiat and the 18-hole course that followed was designed in 1945 by Mackenzie Ross, one of the best architects of golf courses in the world.
Subsequently, the field was modified to allow the construction of a part of the Lisbon / Estoril motorway, which was designed by the French architect Jean Jean. In this transformation, hole number 9 disappeared, there was a change in the course of hole number 13 - the famous Patiño hole - that now has a dogleg to the right, the second shot being played from the place where the old green was located, this is now higher. With the disappearance of hole number 9 was necessary to build another hole, which is now the 13, a par 3 of 151 meters.
Finally, hole number 16 had its green redesigned, still being a par 3 of 179 meters, smaller than the old one, considered by many players as one of the best holes of Portuguese golf courses.
It is a par 69 (34 35), a total of 5189 meters.
The Estoril Golf course has another 9-hole course normally used by beginners, the Blue Course.
