Standing on the bank of the old Cadaveira river, overlooking Poça beach, it was inserted in the line of defense of the river Tagus, at the time of the War of the Restoration of Independence.
Its designation is a tribute to the prince D. Teodosio, first-born of D. João IV (1640-1656), being still known like Fort of Assubida, to be located at the top of the ramp of Cadaveira.
It was classified as Property of Public Interest through Decree No. 129 of September 29, 1977.
