There are reports that his name comes from the fact that D. João III made his stroke in the sleeve of the doublet he wore. From its origins, there are still the buildings that filled the center of the garden and can be seen, inside the cubelles, four small mutilated altarpieces, attributed to John of Rouen. The garden also has lakes attractions that, according to its admirers, give it freshness and beauty.
The cloister was classified as National Monument in 1934.
Jardim da Manga or Cloister of the Manga is a public public place, located near the church of Santa Cruz, downtown of Coimbra.
Integrated in the Monastery of Santa Cruz and based on the Italian frescoes and appearing circular plan, it corresponds to what remains of the architecture of the monastery's former cloister.
