Situated in a dune area and very exposed to the north winds, the Guincho is world famous as a beach for water sports, such as windsurfing. The temperamental sea can offer some risks to the bathers mainly because of the currents and the strong winds that often are felt also are unpleasant. But in ideal conditions, Guincho is one of the most pleasant beaches in the region.
Along the Estrada do Guincho there are several luxury restaurants. Closer to the beach are the Muxaxo restaurant and inn and the luxurious Hotel do Guincho. At the north end is the Bar do Guincho, also an area of nightlife.
The beach of Guincho is, along with that of Carcavelos, the largest in the municipality of Cascais. It is located on Estrada do Guincho, which follows the coast line from the village of Cascais and connects to the municipality of Sintra.
The beach is guarded and is equipped with first aid, restaurants and various other services for bathers. There is a car park by the road, on the small beach of Guincho; and in the far north, near the Guincho Bar. Despite this, it is normal for parks to be crowded in the summer months.
