The Evangelical Church of the Savior is located in Berlin-Moabit in the Kleiner Tiergarten on Thusnelda-Allee and is in the north of Turmstrasse and in the street of Alt-Moabit. More than 87 m high tower they are the focus of the prudent areas. The church is the preaching place of the Protestant parish Moabit West and belongs to the church district Berlin Stadtmitte (KKBS) of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO).
Since the Johanniskirche, the Moabiter Church, for which in the second half of the 19th century was quickly entitled to become too small, the Heilandskirche was built as a branch in 1892-94. For this purpose, the piece of the small zoo was cut off and made available for the church building.
The design comes from the architect Friedrich Schulze, the execution was done by Paul Kieschke. The cross-shaped brick hall church in neo-Gothic forms has short transepts, which it acts as a central building. The slender tower expects a raised pointed roof, which is a base of small pointed turrets. This corresponds to the ridge turret over the crossing and Zlichenürmen in the inner corners of the ships. The Bolle company donated the three bells that have been preserved to this day. The church was consecrated on June 20, 1894. The community only became independent in 1896. In 1905 it experienced a community center in Putlitzstrasse. In 1905/06 the pastor's residence and parish hall was found in Ottostraße 17.
The church suffered severe damage in the Second World War. During an air raid in November 1943, the roof and the tower spire burned down. As a result, the church was in ruins. In the first years it was run again in a very simplified way under Erich Ruhtz and Erich Glaß. The roof was re-covered in 1951. The ridge turret was left out and the corner turret was replaced. The lost choir refers to the change in the ground floor - one difference, the tower was restored in its old form. The interior was adorned with neo-Gothic ornaments. Since the number of parishioners had decreased, the galleries were dispensed with. The rededication belongs to 1960. The new altarpiece was requested according to the design by Hans Gottfried von Stockhausen and discontinued in 1961.
Since before the merger with the political Reformation congregation to form the Moabit West congregation in 2004, the number of congregation members was less than 5,000 lost wars and only a fraction of the basic building maintenance costs, the commune zhe congregation avenue decided to interest.
