The date of its foundation is not known, and there are several hypotheses for this, namely a legend linked to Reconquista quite present in the local oral tradition. Nevertheless, it is consensual that this church has remote origins, being of oldest of the old term of Veiros.
It is known to have been administered by Santa Casa da Misericórdia since 1609 and had a structural reform in 1778, which eliminated almost all the primitive elements.
Outside there is a churchyard with benches for pilgrims and, laterally, a terreiro for pilgrims where today the festivities are celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Mileu.
The façade has simple spiked wedges, with a marble door and window. The door is trimmed and meshed in the neoclassical style, although the rolled pediment of Marian invocation is still in the rococo style.

As curiosity, it refers to the existence of a plaque with funerary inscription of a Roman citizen, as evidenced by its form of identification (tria nomina, filiation and tribe), inscribed in the tribe Papíria, which is where the citizens of Merida are registered (Emerita Augusta). By its characteristics, this inscription of the first half of the first century can be dated. Together with the other epigraph collected, also it of a Roman citizen inscribed in the same tribe, perhaps we are in the presence of a group of emeritenses that settled and colonized this region.
