Today the ruins of Dürnstein Castle are the most popular sight in the Wachau. Hotel Richard Löwenherz is named after Richard the Lionheart, King of England, who was held captive there from 1192 to 1193. The Wachau, with its impressive convents and monasteries, castles and vineyards, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stretching between Melk and Krems, it is the most famous part of the Danube and offers a wide range of sports and leisure opportunities. In summer the Danube features beautiful beaches and high-quality waters for a cool swim. The hotel is open from mid-April to the end of October.
