Montreux
Montreux (formerly known in German as Muchtern) is a commune of Switzerland in Canton Vaud with about 25,199 inhabitants. It extends over an area of 33.40 km², with a population density of 754 inhab / km², forming, with the adjacent communes, an urban agglomeration of about 90,000 people.

It is located on the northern shore of Lake Leman.

The official language in this commune is French spoken by 74.4% of the population. The second most spoken language is German, with 6.2%, followed by Italian, with 4.0%.

The locality is world renowned for hosting the Montreux Jazz Festival and for being the city where the events of one of Deep Purple's most famous Rock and Roll songs, Smoke on the Water, took place.

Montreux Volley Masters, the international women's volleyball tournament, has been held annually since 1984.

Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the British band Queen, resided in Montreux part of his youth. In Place du Marché, on the shores of Lake Geneva, a statue in his honor was erected in 1996.
Tourism
Switzerland stands out for its famous Alps and beautiful lakes, and this combination of mountains and blue waters produces some of the most phenomenal landscapes in the world. We drove along the northern shore of Lake Geneva, between the city that gives its name to the lake and Montreux, a village located in one of the most beautiful corners of Switzerland. The result? We leave to feel that paradise exists, and is right there in Montreux.

Lake Geneva is 582 square kilometers and is the second largest in Europe, functioning as a natural border between France and Switzerland. From some points of the lake, you can even see Mont Blanc, the most famous mountain in France, and the highest in Europe. Remember that French is the official language in that region of Switzerland, and not everyone speaks English!

Start the tour with a walk along the Promenade Fleuri, the 11-kilometer walkway that stretches across the lakeshore, decorated with flowers and trees from around the world. The Promenade Fleuri has quite different parts, and you will notice the difference of each of them as you make the journey. The Vevey side, towards Chilon Castle, is calmer and more wooded, with fewer restaurants and crowds. Further on, where is the statue of Freddie Mercury (who lived in the city and said it was his favorite place in the world), is much busier, with several restaurants, bars and also the city's McDonald's.

After the statue, you'll find more green areas and even parks, as well as some of Montreux's largest hotels and important buildings, such as the city's convention center.

Château de Chillon, a castle of rich history built on the shores of Lake Geneva in the fourteenth century, which keeps its medieval beauty intact. The place is magical, and perfectly complements the beautiful landscape that surrounds it.
Access to the castle is easy, either on foot or by bus or car.
Gastronomy
The region is famous for gastronomy, wine and there are restaurants that challenge customers to try to play the alpine horn and only in the end, after all the customers fail, do they discover that there is a trick to getting a sound out of there.
Weather
The climate in Montreux is temperate but with harsh winters: the temperature in July can reach 24ºC and in January to -1ºC.
