Distant 1.8 km from Praia Grande, it is the only maritime island of Rio Grande do Sul. It has that name for receiving sea lions every year, between the months of July and November, in the mating season of the animals. In 1983, Ecological Reserve was declared. It is an important resting and feeding area for lions and sea lions; besides serving as a point of passage for dolphins, whales and botos; birds and marine turtles.

the relief of the Isla de los Lobos does not exceed two meters. It was already the cause of many shipwrecks in storms. The last ship that sank there was the HAWAII, in 1965.
