Its origins date back to pre-Hispanic times, when it was an important population center for the Shachapuyos, a human group that heroically resisted the conquest of the Incas.
Despite its historical significance, this culture that developed in the jungle of northern Peru is, in many respects, an unknown, an unsolved question for researchers.
Levanto, a district that mixes the pre-Hispanic remains of Yálape (a center populated with rhombus-shaped and zigzag friezes), the circular building of Colla Cruz (of Shachapuyo-Inca construction), surrounded by beautiful landscapes, which only the whim of nature can create.Located 22 kilometers from Chachapoyas.
in Levanto you should visit:
Yalape, an archaeological site from pre-Hispanic times, with circular buildings made of stone and mud. On its walls you can see friezes in high relief, characteristic ornamentation of Shachapuya architecture.
Its extension is four hectares and it would have been built between 1100 and 1300 AD.
