Fourteen hectares located on the Lota Alto peninsula make up the park that Doña Isidora Goyenechea (1836 - 1897), the wealthiest Chilean woman of the time and wife of the businessman Luis Cousiño (1835 - 1873), ordered to be built around the castle where the family would live. The French-style palace, built between 1885 to 1898, was never inhabited. It was only occupied for the operation of the offices of the Lota coal company. The strong earthquakes that devastated the region gradually demolished the structure of the majestic building, until its demolition in 1964. Finally, the heirs of Isidora Goyenechea preferred to make their home a small house on the cliff, which disappeared in 1960.
Designed by the English landscaper Bartelet, between 1862 and 1872, then the park was continued by Reilly.
Lota is located 500 kilometers south of Santiago de Chile. To get to Lota, you pass through the City of Concepción, (39 kilometers from Lota), capital of the Eighth Region; From there, we head south along an excellent road, double track, paved in two directions, passing through the city of Coronel, we arrive at Playa Blanca, entering Lota
Today, it houses century-old trees brought by Doña Isidora, a greenhouse, a Chinese gondola, a meteorological observatory, a lighthouse, benches, lanterns, vases, fountains and sculptures. Venus in the bath of Allegrain and Caupolicán, of Nicanor Plaza, stand out. The ornaments show a park frozen in time, testimony to the economic prosperity of the Cousiño family.
In a hollow is the grave of the first son of the Cousiño - Goyenechea, Carlos (1859-1931) couple. In front, the pique that bears his name stands out and that was later baptized as Chiflón del Diablo. From there you can see two tall towers. In the concrete one the ´´pique tosquero´´ worked, which ventilated and removed the slag. The metal one, called ´´the cage´´, was used to mobilize the personnel and the coal.
From multiple viewpoints you can see Lota Bajo, where the fishing cove and the port used to be, both located in the Gulf of Arauco.
