The Porta de Santarém, open to the Santiago district, has a cylindrical and a quadrangular tower, denoting a greater defensive need, indicating that this would initially be the main door of the medieval village. It has, like the Door of the Frandina, a plaque dedicated to Our Lady of the Conception and also one that marks the end of the work of the wall, in 1261:''Era Mª CCª LX'ª VIIIIª REGNAnTE / REX ALFOnSus DICTus COMES / BO LO (n) / IE / FU IT / MU RUM / EDI FI / CAT US'', whose translation will be: "It was 1299 [Year 1261 of the Age of Christ] reigning King Afonso said Count of Bologna was wall built ''.

The medieval fence of Estremoz was built by king D. Afonso III (1245-1279) in 1261 and improved by his successors, mainly by his son D. Dinis (1279-1325). It has two main opposite doors (axis E-O): the Door of the Sun or the Frandina and the Door of Santarém.
