From the nucleus of imagery existing in the Matrix of Alte, composed of fifteen specimens of wood, stands the image of Santa Margarida.
Due to its formal and iconographic characteristics, it can be inserted in the Baroque period, concretely in the second quarter of the century. XVIII, raising the hypothesis of having been made by the best sculptor from the Algarve, the master Manuel Martins.
The access staircase to the pulpit was lined with reclaimed figurative tiles from the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, probably after the earthquake of 1755.
The most interesting tiles are found on the side walls and the roof of the main chapel. They represent angelic musicians surrounded by clouds and heads of seraphim. They were placed in this temple in the first half of the eighteenth century, probably by the Borges brothers, the main settlers.
