The main portal and the primitive image of the patron, point towards the end of the 15th century, principles of the 16th century. XVI, already following the Manueline form.
Integrated in a movement that took place throughout the Algarve region in the centennial of five hundred, where new parishes were created, the Alferce also emancipated itself from Silves and the small medieval Ermida existing in the middle of the village passed the main church, probably in the third quarter of the century, having then been renovated the chancel, which bears the date of 1578 in the clasp of the triumphal arch.
Located in the parish of Alferce.
It deserves to be highlighted the set of religious imaginary existing on the altars and sacristy of this temple. In addition to the primitive patron, a stone image from the Manueline period, the remaining sculptural representations are made of wood - five from the Mannerist period, one rococo and three from the 16th century. XIX, already after the implantation of the Liberalism, in a period of artistic decay.
The church has unique nave and lateral chapels, two of each side, that in the century XVIII served as headquarters for the Confraternities of the Lady of the Rosary, the Lady of Consolation, Souls of Purgatory and Holy Spirit.
The book of baptismal records was started in 1673.
