Two different circumstances are linked to the origin of the name Calheta: the first relates to the existence of a small bay that had the current name; the second is due to the fact that the village was a place where taxes on sugar and timber were collected.
The climate is excellent, in what is called the "coast of the sun" and where the best temperatures of the Region are usually recorded. For beach lovers there is an artificial adjoining the recreational port, with yellow sand, and for those who want to take a vacation from the sea after great trips there is also a 4-star hotel.
It is considered an untouched corner and blessed by a warm sun and golden sand beach.
