The Museo de las Cortes de Cádiz is a historical museum located on Calle Santa Inés de Cádiz. It was born as a reference within the acts carried out in the city to commemorate the First Centennial of the Constitution of 1812, the first in the History of Spain.
The then mayor of the Cadiz capital, Cayetano del Toro y Quartiellers, promoted the purchase in 1909 of two urban estates to create the Iconographic and Historical Museum of the Courts and Site of Cádiz, which was inaugurated on October 5, 1912. In 1947 a disastrous explosion (the sadly famous explosion in Cádiz) causes serious damage to the museum, which closed until 1964. That year it reopened under its current name. In the 80s and 90s of the 20th century it underwent various reforms; currently it continues to be reformed and improved before the imminent celebration of the Bicentennial of La Pepa.
In it there are abundant objects from the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly: weapons, copies of constitutions, medals, flags, paintings ... One of the jewels of the museum is a model of the city of Cádiz made by the military engineer Alfonso Jiménez in 1777 commissioned by Carlos III, with large size noble woods and ivory, of high value for the historical and urban knowledge of the Cadiz capital.
