There are medieval drawings that show boats anchored near the walls of Óbidos. What today is a lagoon a few hundred meters from the village was, at that time, a vast inland gulf in contact with the ocean that had been silted. It extends between the villages of Vau, Bom Sucesso, Foz do Arelho and Nadadouro.

The Óbidos Lagoon is one of the most beautiful places on Portugal's west coast, and is a fragile ecosystem, where several species find a privileged habitat.
The embouchure, modified every year by the game of currents and tides, is very frequented by vacationers, existing on the northern shore (Foz do Arelho) and south (Bom Sucesso). Excellent conditions for water sports, with and without a motor.
