The Ornamental Pile has 6 meters. high, is on a granite base, symbolizes the four seasons of the year. They complete the group of symbols of commerce, industry and navigation; an anchor, an oar, a bale, anchor lines and the rudder of the boat.

We can cite numerous opinions of inferior people in the studies of art and aesthetics, who coincide in affirming that the Ornamental Pile of Tacna is a true work of Art that can make any city in the world proud.

In the center of the Old Plaza de Armas of the City of Tacna, stands the beautiful Ornamental Pile, which for the long space of one hundred years, constitutes a valuable artistic treasure, not only for the inhabitants of the City, whether or not they are natives of her, but also for those who come from other parts of the country and for tourists from distant lands.

The Ornamental Pile was brought from the City of Brussels, Belgium by the famous construction firm Eiffel. It was acquired and given to the City of Tacna by the Government of Don José Balta, in 1869. It is located in the Center of the Plaza de Armas, for a century, that Pila has been an exceptional witness to the sufferings, glories and heroism of Tacna. In it the tradition and the legitimate pride of Tacna, as a democratic, libertarian and republican city, is enclosed.
