Grandiose adobe and stone construction where an imposing building known as La Fortaleza stands out, erected on a huge rock formation, and other constructions that are accessed by walking through a set of passageways and ramps.

The complex dates from the Late Intermediate period (1100-1400 AD), attributed to the Chimú culture; years later occupied by the Incas (1440-1532 AD). We can visit two rooms that have niches in their walls and an enclosure that has red, white and ocher paint marks.

The top of a natural mound on the edge of cultivated fields was completely transformed by the construction of five high overlapping terraces.

Several restricted access doors lead to the top where there is a solitary and small four-room construction. The ceramics and the characteristic large parallelepiped adobes leave no doubt of their Inca affiliation. The defensive appearance is deceptive, as the building probably did not have military but cult functions. It is not by chance that the set, polychrome plaster and design correspond to one of the largest Inca monumental works on the coast: the Pyramid of the Sun, in Pachacámac.

It is located north of the city of Lima, at kilometer 203 of the North Pan-American Highway. It belongs to the City of Lima, Barranca province, Pativilca district.

203 km north of the city of Lima (3hrs 30 min), taking the Pan-American Highway, there is a beautiful terraced pyramid in perfect condition: Paramonga.
