It is all made of white marble, just like all the pillars of the Council of Estremoz. It was probably moved to this square in 1739, judging by the inscription engraved on the pillar.

This piece was built in 1539, in the reign of King John III (1521-1557), to the taste of the French Renaissance, probably influenced by the work of Chanterenne, a French sculptor who worked in Portugal in the first half of the 16th century.
