Prague offers many musical pleasures to its visitors, from the world-famous Prague Spring Festival to the many concert halls that keep the city's long musical tradition alive throughout the year. Less known by foreign visitors, the Czech Music Museum, reserves true treasures for both eyes and ears.
From the outset, this museum was not created just for music connoisseurs. On the contrary, the taste for good music is transmitted in a lively and pedagogical way through its ample collection of modern and ancient instruments. You will find everything from the best known instruments to the rarest ones, with a variety of shapes and sounds that can be enjoyed with the wide number of recordings that are available to the general public. You can discover, for example, luxurious clavicórdios decorated with oriental motifs, shells or ivory. You'll also find a wide variety of pianos: pianos, square or pyramidal pianos, dazzling giraffe pianos or even fourth-level or sixth-tone pianos specially crafted for twentieth-century microtonal music.
A very contemporary presentation highlights the beauty of the works, which are arranged in a building whose original design has been preserved. Its history is also present: an old baroque church built in the XVII century by the architect Francesco Caratti. The building had several functions before being transformed into a museum: post office, military hospital, police headquarters, archives center. The different uses of the building left him with an unusual atmosphere.
