It is an important Marian Shrine, situated on the hill opposite the Castle of Arouce. There are three chapels, the oldest and largest being the Capela de S. João, built between the 13th and 18th centuries. XIII and XIV. It has a set of sculptures of the century. XV and XVI carved in stone of Ançã: S. João Baptista, S. João Evangelista, and S. Paio and an altar front in seismic tiles. Completing the whole, the Chapel of the Agony, built in the 19th century. XVIII and the Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy, high on the hill with whitewashed walls contrasting with the dark green background of the landscape. It is in this chapel that the image of Our Lady of Mercy is found, that only came down to the village in occasion of public calamity and when the Brotherhood of Our Lady was created. The image remained for about a month in the Mother Church, returning in grand procession to its Sanctuary. In 1912 a fourth Chapel was built: that of the Lord of the Afflicted, located on the hill in front of the Castle. This small chapel, in neo-romantic style with stonework, has a revivalist altar executed by the conimbricense sculptor João Machado.
