Its construction, Plateresque and Mudejar style, dates from the 16th century. Inside the temple are valuable structures, such as the neo-Gothic main altar, which was placed in the late 19th century by Italian Dominicans. The ceiling of the Mudejar-style church has paintings by martyrs of the Order of Santo Domingo.

The ceiling of the central nave consists of a pair of knotted armor, covered with steel pieces. One of the eighteenth-century Baroque jewels that is jealously guarded is the Rosary Chapel, which is a stronghold of Quito architecture.

It is located on the streets of Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico (Plaza de Santo Domingo), Quito, Ecuador, in Colonial Quito.

When visiting Santo Domingo, be sure to observe the charming El Rosario Chapel.
