C'est une terre de pêcheurs qui a toujours été étroitement liée à la rivière et à la mer. Aujourd'hui, tout en maintenant le même lien avec la mer, son activité économique est liée à l'activité touristique.

La ville de Ferragudo est située sur la rive gauche de la rivière Arade, surplombant la ville de Portimão. Elle se caractérise par son tas de maisons blanches et ses rues étroites qui aboutissent invariablement au bord de la rivière.
Les belles plages et les conditions naturelles exceptionnelles que l’on trouve ici associent villages, villages et autres unités d’hébergement, faisant de Ferragudo une région d’une beauté reconnue, dans un lieu agréable et idéal pour des vacances au calme.
