The village of Cabeça, embedded in a valley of embedded slopes dominated by shale, sits atop a granite ridge, and is particularly well adapted to the local landscape. The old housing estate is built around the church of São Romão, an old parish church, along two main concentric streets interconnected by small steps and narrow alleys. Most of the houses were built in shale stone and many still maintain the traditional slate cover, forming a set that constitutes one of the best examples of a typical shale moth settlement in the Serra da Estrela.
