La maison construite au bord de la falaise, juste au-dessus de la place Sotomayor, a une vue privilégiée sur la ville. Il a été restauré et fonctionne comme le Lord Thomas Cochrane Museum of the Sea.
Il s'agit d'une ancienne maison de style colonial construite en 1842 par l'Anglais Juan Muat, qui a installé le premier observatoire du Chili dans l'une de ses salles.
Il expose des pièces de modélisation navale et des expositions tournantes sont organisées tout au long de l'année, en plus l'environnement est soigné avec d'agréables jardins et de vieux arbres.
